IRU is pleased to present you with the very special service, "Fast Results through Selective Programming". Many language schools offer courses designed for the generalized needs of the whole language market. IRU offers expertise in the specialized needs of the individual student or group. This personalized approach encompasses vocabulary selection and methods of presentation which enable the student to achieve the desired goals and results according to his/her maximum capability and needs. The trained and experienced language professionals at IRU teach all languages to achieve maximum fluency results in a minimum period of time.
IRU uses the "Direct Method" of language instruction, which offers the student immediate speaking and comprehension skills. This method basically teaches language the same way the student learned his/her own language as a child. The Direct Method enables the student to begin thinking and speaking in the new language from the beginning. Such a technique minimizes any mental translating. Vocabulary selection, progression of the material presented, and teaching techniques are designed to achieve the specific goals desired by the student. Through this individualized curriculum, the student is able to attain more rapid results than through other, more generalized approaches to language instruction.
IRU textbooks contains the most up-to-date material and vocabulary available. In addition to IRU textbooks and manuals, other teaching materials, such as specialized vocabulary, are added, tailoring each class to the specific needs of the students. These individualized materials are designed by our language department. Each student receives a complete set of instructional materials. We also work with video and audio material, games, and language software programs.
As part of our program, recordings made during class will be provided to the student for review at home. These recordings become a very useful addition to the learning process because the students can review the material just learned and reinforce the cultural and linguistic nuances of the language in a very meaningful way. In addition, each course includes pre-recorded audio material corresponding to course content.
Incoming students take written and oral evaluations to determine their general proficiency level in the target language. Students fall into three broad categories.
Levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
Beginner: At the elementary level, students immediately learn to handle simple, everyday conversations and basic vocabulary in the new language. As they progress, they will understand the structure of simple sentences and be able to ask and answer questions. At this very important basic level, high emphasis is placed on learning the correct pronunciation of the new and unfamiliar sounds of the foreign language.
Intermediate: At this level, the student will advance to speaking in various tenses with ease and will learn to carry on conversations in many situations. Emphasis is placed on using correct grammar while speaking the new language. Students will begin to master new and different areas of the language.
Advanced: At this level, the student reaches a satisfactory proficiency with regard to vocabulary and structural correctness. Mastery over a broad level of vocabulary has been achieved and will be extended. Comprehension is excellent at the normal speaking rate. Mastery over grammar is sufficient so that the student's communication is not compromised. The student can participate in most general conversations with ease and can effectively handle daily business demands.
At the request of the student or the student's company, we will make periodic progress reports evaluating the student on a regular basis. Reports and tests will chart the student's progress in these areas:
Our teachers have received extensive training in the "Direct Method" and offer a wealth of teaching experience. They also have the ability to impart the cultural aspects of language to each student, enabling them to adapt to both the new language and the new culture with a minimum of "culture shock".
